Inverters cangenerate significant amounts of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) disturbances. Inparticular. high frequency (150kHz-30 MHz) disturbances conducted into the mains supplymust be controlled if products containing inverters are to comply with the requirements of theEuropean EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.The usual method of controlling these disturbances is to insert a filter into the mains supply tothe inverter. It should be noted that these filters are intended to control high frequency emissions from theinverters. They will also improve the immunity of the inverters to mains-conducteddisturbances. They will have no appreciable effect on the generation of or immunity to mainsharmonics.
